If you are proficient in CAD programmes, possess a strong understanding of substation mechanical systems, and have a keen eye for compliance and detail, we invite your interest.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our engineering team as a Senior Draughtsman specialising in Substation (Mechanical Engineer) for Fire Fighting Systems. This role presents a unique opportunity for a draughting professional with expertise in mechanical substation systems and fire safety infrastructure to produce technical drawings and documentation of the highest standards. The successful candidate will be an essential part of multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the coordinated delivery of substations and fire protection systems aligned with regulatory standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities – Substation Mechanical Draughting & Fire Fighting Systems Design
Prepare accurate and detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and schematics for substation fire fighting systems, including fire suppression, detection, and safety systems.
Develop general arrangement drawings, isometrics, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), fabrication details, and installation layouts for mechanical fire protection infrastructure.
Revise and update mechanical drawings throughout all stages of substation and fire fighting system projects, ensuring accuracy and alignment with evolving requirements.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, and external contractors to ensure all documentation complies with project specifications, safety codes, and regulatory guidelines.
Maintain organised drawing registers and version control for all mechanical system schematics and project documents.
Conduct site visits for surveys, as-built verifications, or to resolve design and installation coordination issues as they arise.
Contribute to continuous improvements and standardisation of mechanical draughting methods and fire protection system documentation within the department.
Required Skills – Mechanical Substation Draughting, CAD Proficiency & Compliance

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate and compliant technical drawings.
Effective organisation skills, capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
Clear verbal and written communication skills, enabling confident collaboration with technical and non-technical project stakeholders.
Capability to interpret technical reports, design calculations, and supplier data sheets to inform mechanical drawing outputs.
Proactive and solutions-focused, able to address technical challenges swiftly and independently or as part of a wider team.
Qualifications & Experience – Substation Mechanical Engineering & Fire Safety Systems
Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design.
Significant experience in mechanical draughting for substations or similar critical infrastructure, ideally with a focus on fire fighting and safety systems.
Familiarity with the design and specification of mechanical fire fighting installations such as sprinklers, gas suppression, hydrants, and fire detection in substation environments.
Experience with document management, drawing registers, and version control in an engineering environment.
