Technical Engineer - Fire Door
Job Summary:
We are seeking a commercially aware and technically proficient Technical Engineer – Fire Door to join our team. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and sales support across fire door systems, delivering compliant solutions to clients, supporting the commercial and project teams, and contributing to business growth. This role suits a customer‑focused professional with strong selling skills, sound technical knowledge of fire doors and associated hardware, excellent communication skills and a practical problem‑solving approach.
Key Responsibilities – Technical Support, Sales Assistance & Stakeholder Communication
Act as the technical point of contact for enquiries, providing expert advice on fire door types, frame systems, ironmongery and installation methods to meet required fire performance and regulatory standards.
Support the sales and estimating teams with pre‑sales activities including site surveys, technical clarifications, client meetings, product demonstrations and preparation of proposals and quotations.
Prepare technical documentation, door schedules, specification notes and installation guidance to support accurate quotes and successful project delivery.
Work closely with estimation, design, fabrication and installation teams to review drawings, verify buildability and ensure solutions are practicable, costed correctly and programme‑aware.
Develop and present commercial and technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders, including value engineering options that improve win rates and margin performance.
Maintain accurate records of technical decisions, site surveys, correspondence and client requirements within the company’s CRM and project management systems.
Identify technical issues or risks early, analyse root causes, propose pragmatic solutions and coordinate implementation with relevant teams to protect programme, cost and compliance outcomes.
Undertake site visits during installation and handover to verify workmanship, resolve site queries and certify compliance with project specifications and statutory requirements.
Keep up to date with fire safety legislation and relevant standards (e.g. BS EN, Building Regulations), product developments and market practice to ensure recommended solutions remain compliant and competitive.
Qualifications & Experience – Sales Support, Technical Knowledge & Communication
Relevant technical qualification in building services, fire protection, construction or engineering is desirable.
Typically2–5 years’ experience working with fire door systems, passive fire protection or building fabric, with demonstrable technical input to projects or quotations.
Proven selling skills with experience supporting pre‑sales activities, preparing client proposals and presenting technical/commercial solutions.
Strong technical knowledge of fire doors, frames, ironmongery and installation methods, and an understanding of relevant standards and statutory requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information clearly to clients, consultants and internal teams.
Demonstrable problem‑solving mindset with the ability to assess issues, propose pragmatic solutions and drive corrective actions that improve project outcomes.
Proficiency with CAD drawings, spreadsheets, CRM and project management systems; familiarity with estimating software is advantageous.
Valid driving licence and willingness to attend site visits and supplier meetings as required.
