Estimation Engineer – Firefighting

Job Summary
The Estimation Engineer – Firefighting will prepare and review technical and commercial estimates for firefighting and associated life-safety systems. The role involves developing accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ), cost plans, and tender submissions while ensuring compliance with project specifications, NFPA/BS standards, and local authority requirements. The position works closely with project, procurement, and design teams to support successful bid delivery and project realisation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Estimating & Tender Preparation
Prepare detailed estimates and BOQs for firefighting systems including wet/dry risers, sprinklers, deluge systems, hydrants, foam, and water supplies
Quantify materials, labour, plant, and subcontract packages in line with approved drawings and specifications
Develop unit rates, labour productivity assumptions, and price build-ups for cost schedules
Prepare commercial submissions, take-off documents, and tender clarifications
2. Technical Review & Compliance
Review design drawings, specifications, and manufacturer data to ensure accurate scope and compliance with NFPA, BS, and local authority codes
Identify design ambiguities, omissions, and value engineering opportunities and propose cost-effective solutions
Coordinate with design and project teams to resolve technical queries during the tender phase
3. Procurement & Vendor Coordination
Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations, compare scopes, and assess technical compliance
Develop subcontractor scope of work and tender packages for procurement
Maintain supplier and subcontractor rate databases and update approved vendor lists
4. Cost Control & Reporting
Prepare preliminary cost plans, budget estimates, and sensitivity analysis for bid/no-bid decisions
Submit estimation reports, assumptions, and risk registers to the bidding team and management
Support handover of estimate data to project controls and procurement upon award
5. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to align estimates with programme and project constraints
Contribute to post-tender reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement of estimating practices
Attend tender review meetings and present cost recommendations to stakeholders
Requirements
Education
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Fire Protection, or Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline
Experience
2–6 years’ experience in estimation for firefighting, sprinkler, and life-safety systems
Experience with UAE/GCC projects and familiarity with local authority requirements is preferred
Proven experience preparing BOQs, tender submissions, and vendor comparisons
Valid UAE driving licence is advantageous
Technical Competencies
Knowledge of firefighting systems: wet/dry risers, sprinklers, hydrants, foam systems, pumps and tanks
Familiarity with NFPA standards, BS codes, and local authority regulations
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic drawings and specifications
Proficiency in measurement and estimating tools; experience with Excel-based estimating and take-off software.
